Meet the Board of Directors

Beth Johnson

Chair and Director

Beth retired from a 30-year career with Johnson County Government in 2021, where she worked at Developmental Supports. She served in various positions within this agency, including Director of Day and Employment Services, Case Management Coordinator, Case Manager, and Direct Support Professional.
Beth became a member of Faith Journey Church of the Nazarene is 2013 and has served in Children’s Ministry and is also an Ex Officio member of the board. After retiring, Beth felt led to became involved with the development of Life Journey.
Beth and her husband Robert enjoy serving together at Life Journey and are active members of their church. They are also heavily involved with a local Celebrate Recovery program and serve in various capacities, where they have had the privilege to share their testimony, to illustrate the healing power of Christ and offer hope and encouragement to others. They also love spending time with their family, which includes five children, two daughters-in-laws, and 7 grandchildren.

Pastor Randy Calhoun

Director AND PASTOR

Randy has been the pastor of Faith Journey Church of the Nazarene since 2015. Prior to that, he was a children’s pastor for 18 years at Harvester Church of the Nazarene in St. Peters, MO. 

Pastor Randy has led Faith Journey through many transitions over the last several years, including the completion of a building project at the Faith Journey Ministry Center, located in the heart of Downtown Olathe.  

Pastor Randy helped formulate the vision to reach people in the Downtown Olathe by inviting them to be a part of our community and helping address some basic needs. He has served on the board since Life Journey was formed in 2021 and is very involved with the monthly Kid’s Night Out and Summer Art Camp.

Ginger Wood

Ginger Wood

TREASURER

Ginger is an educator with Lee’s Summit School District, teaching English Language Learners. Her students experience another primary language in their homes and the goal is to help them become more proficient in reading and speaking the English language. Her professional teaching career started in 1999, with 14 of these years being in Lee’s Summit.

Ginger grew up in church as a preacher’s kid. She is used to always being involved in church activities and serving others. She became a member of Faith Journey Church of the Nazarene in 2007. She has volunteered her time and talents in many different ways throughout her years at Faith Journey. She has served as the Church Board Secretary for many years, she helps in various ways with the baby and children’s ministries, and she likes to be available to help with different activities and projects around the church. She enjoys using her musical talent by singing and playing the keyboard for worship services.

Ginger began helping with the Community Care site team through Faith Journey and Mission Southside. She later joined Life Journey Foundation’s board, where she is currently serving as treasurer for the Foundation.

Spending time with her family, which includes 3 teenage nieces, is always a delight for Ginger. She loves spoiling them and taking them places to have fun experiences. She also loves to travel and is excited whenever she can mark off another country as being visited. She enjoys her 1897 Victorian home and spending time with her kitties. In her free time, she likes to cross stitch, bringing back fond memories of her grandma who did some beautiful cross stitch pieces.

Maggie Ackleson

SECRETARY

 Maggie is a retired professor emeritus from Johnson County Community College. She has enjoyed over 30 years as a college professor teaching learning strategies and academic college success and is continuing her love of teaching on a part-time basis. While engaged in her academic career, Maggie also helped establish a New Hope program through a local church for those who were struggling with a life crisis, addiction, grief and loss.

She served as a Stephen Minister and trainer for many years and currently is a Grief Share facilitator and a mentor trainer for Life Journey. Maggie has been a part of Faith Journey since 2010 and has served on the board and in various ministries.

Through her own family experiences and her own journey, she realizes the need for grace-based acceptance and support for those who are struggling. She has found Life Journey Foundation to be a place where she can serve and provide that support. Maggie also loves being with her family and friends and enjoys reading and traveling.

Laura Bondy

Laura Bondy

Director

Laura is a former Olathe resident who spent most of her childhood in a rent-subsidized neighborhood. Living in this community allowed her to witness firsthand the challenges faced by low-income families. This experience fueled her passion to support these families in breaking the cycle of poverty, especially single-parent households. Laura is a devoted member of Faith Journey Church and felt an immediate calling to serve when Life Journey began.
Currently, Laura resides in Basehor with her husband of over 18 years, their two children, two dogs, and a cat. They are active members of the Faith Journey Church community and enjoy spending time outdoors engaging in activities like hiking, kayaking, and camping.

Josh Calhoun

Director

Josh joined the Life Journey Foundation board in 2021. He has served by editing grants and by providing general support to the board. He has enjoyed learning more about downtown Olathe in recent years.
Josh studied Sociology at MidAmerica Nazarene University. He works for a local non-profit organization in Kansas City and has a heart for compassionate ministry.

Craig Anderson

Director

Craig joined the Life Journey board in 2024 and began attending Faith Journey in 2021, shortly after relocating to Olathe. At this time, Craig was staying at a hotel and was unsure of where he might be able to find housing. He was able to receive some assistance from Life Journey and secured an apartment in Downtown Olathe. Craig is retired and loves giving back to his community. He spends several hours each week volunteering at Mission Southside and often assists with events and special projects for Life Journey.

Trisha Nyberg

Director

Trisha has lived in Olathe since 1979 and enjoys spending time with her husband of 18 years, children and grandchildren and using her creative gifts to bless others. She went to MNU while working for Sprint and finalized her education with a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Administration with an emphasis in Non-Profit. She began attending Faith Journey in 2023 and shortly after that, expressed an interest in becoming a volunteer for Life Journey. Trisha and her husband have volunteered for compassionate ministries in Olathe and downtown Kansas City, Missouri. She has provided significant support to several women who receive services from Life Journey and often provides rides to employment and appointments, as well as helps to meet other needs. She also provides administrative support to Life Journey and became a board member in 2024. Trisha is retired and enjoys camping, traveling, reading, as well as quilting and knitting.
